More and more 3D spatial data have been generated by different authorities and agencies by using various means in many countries including Turkey. Initiative has been formulated by relevant authority for example the Metropolitan Planning Centre of Istanbul Greater Municipality towards 2D and 3D GIS-based spatial data information system. A lot of efforts have been invested for such spatial system and ultimately to be able to make right decisions for city development processes. This paper describes the management of 3D spatial data such as buildings and other historical objects and monuments by using geo DBMS and Bentley CAD software package. We have enhanced the geo DBMS by incorporating new 3D spatial operators for managing the objects as we perceived in the real world. Our case study is based on 3D geo spatial objects of various buildings in Suleymania region of Istanbul Historic Peninsula as an attempt to offer application, validate and test the state-of-the-art of the existing GIS solution towards 3D GIS.
