InSAR analyse supported by GIS for determination of effects of mining subsidence in urban areas: A case study in Zonguldak Metropolitan Area
In many countries that coal mining is applied, surface subsidence caused by mining activities has been carefully monitored, and some precautions intended for surface damages by the subsidence have been taken into consideration. However, subsidence is a complex event which is a result of natural and unnatural effects although it is taken place due to the underground productions. The regional behaviour of this event is changed from region to region. Therefore, determination of specifically subsidence parameters of these regions by periodical monitoring is necessary. Spaceborn InSAR is a corresponding method that it’ll be use on determination by high accuracy and periodical monitors of subsidence effects. With the purpose, an experimental study based on GIS and InSAR analyses is realized on monitoring the temporal progress of these surface changes and their subsidence effects on buildings in Zonguldak Metropoltan Area-ZMA. In this time, there are five municipality and two thousand people lives in this region. In the ZMA are production about 3 million ton hardcoal at the heart of mining activity area Turkish Hard Coal Company, private sector and illegal manufacturers, and 15000 buildings and about 150 kilometre city road include area of ZMA is to exist.
In this study, using periodical taken JERS-1/SAR, RADARSAT and Alos PALSAR radar images subsidence areas and amounts have been analyzed. In Monitoring of Mining Induced Land Subsidence are used C-band SAR Interferometry with RADARSAT images for building areas, and L- band SAR Interferometry with Alos PALSAR images for forest and vegetation areas. Determined surface changing areas in the result of interferometric SAR analyses have been sized and vectorized and integrated to GIS. The road and buildings inside of the urbanized area vectorized on QuickBirth images determined by passive sensing and vectorized underground production maps also integrated to GIS. The roads and buildings in the mining induced land subsidence effect areas using superimposed QuickBirth image and vectorized interferometric SAR image are founded. Degree of Effect from the subsidence of roads and buildings inside of this region, various statistical info, resources as determination of relations of surface, the road and buildings with underground mine production and subsidence are realized using interrogation and analyse functions of GIS
